REMEMBERING THE DISAPPEARED LEADERS

OF THE ETHIOPAIN DEMOCRATIC UNION

The Tigrai Liberation Front (TPLF) of present prime Minster Meles Zenawi has been accused of "disappearing" a number of people belonging to rival organizations like the Ethiopian Democratic Union and the Ethiopian People's Revolutionary Party.

In its campaign to kidnap (in the Sudan) and to transport to Tigrai such people, the government of the Sudan had given it full cooperation. The following EDU leaders and prominent members were thus apprehended or taken by the TPLF from the Sudan and have disappeared since the early 90s. Many people fear that the TPLF/EPRDF may have summarily executed them though the Meles Zenawi group has refused to give any clarification on the matter.

SOCEPP reminds human rights organizations to demand the EPRDF to give an account on the fate of the above "disappeared" EDU leaders who should NOT be forgotten.
